The directions for this walk are simplicity! From the Station car park at Robin Hoods Bay - leave at the entrance/exit and cross the road, walking straight into Mount Pleasant North. You can't miss the direction post! Follow the one that says Cleveland Way & Cinder Track.
From here you simply follow the track North.......taking in some fantastic sea & country views.
Looking Out To Sea
There are a few relics from the railway along the walk....bridges....piles of sleepers.....wooden sleepers buried under the track surface...just to give a subtle reminder of what you are walking on.
Utility Bridge
We leave the track briefly at Hawsker to cross the A171. Not much further along the track we reach the old station at Hawsker...which is now Trailways - Cycle hire, bike sales and self-catering railway carriage accommodation!
On leaving Hawsker we now have Whitby in our sight...a short distance ahead, as we pass through some lovely woodland down steep embankments.
And before long we approach the highlight of the walk...the Fabulous Larpool Viaduct, A Grade II listed brick built structure with 13 arches, built by John Waddell, spanning the River Esk in Whitby.
After the Viaduct we are basically round the corner from the end of the track...
View Of Whitby Abbey from the end of the line!
End of the line! Of the Cinder track anyway...

You can sample a little bit more of the disused track in Whitby by going to Upgang Lane - Just look for the large Sandstone? overbridge. Sadly there isn't much, but has to be viewed if you are into this kind of thing.
The trackbed itself has been grassed over, so nothing os left over from it's working days...except 2 bridges...And the old station building, which has been converted into a family home...with the old platform shelter now a parking lot! You can find this on Station Avenue (just off Upgang Lane). You can see this from one of the bridges on the old line, but sadly you can't get to it from there as the bridge has been fenced off, as you can see from the pics below.

Same Bridge, but from the trackbed
